tim lahan

this is one of tim lahan's more reserved works. but i love it.
he has a lot of illustrations in this months Good magazine.
here's his site: http://www.trademark-trademark.com/
and here's his flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/timlahan/
he quite literally draws a lot of shit. there is a lot of humor in most of his stuff. but i love this and some of this others because of the integrations of simple lines with cut paper and photos. pretty rad colors too.

Cover Screen Shot

Here is a screen shot of just the first cover idea I made to see if I even liked that banner symbol/image for a masthead and how some type would fit in it. I am pretty set on using predominately Sentinel for the design. I think it is pretty versatile and plus I love slabs, but want to use one that isn't everywhere yet. Plus, it is an update of a classic (Clarendon), so it looks kind of classy. Anyways, here it is. I like it, but it needs some work. I'll upload several explorations in the coming days. Also, I haven't pinned down what I want the content to be exactly yet, but I have some ideas...
The picture is mine. It's of a man fishing in Chicago. Not peeing.

Pitertsev

Hey, this is Rand. Sorry, I suppose I should have stated that I am constantly posting any visual inspiration at my tumblr. But that is mostly photography and illustration, so I'll post on this blog imagery that will be directly influencing my print design and paper engineering for these projects. First up, are some spreads from various publications designed by the Russian designer, Mikhail Pitertsev. He also has some nice package and interactive design, but these specifically caught my eye:

Guess What WEEK 3!!

So guys,

This is my official kick ya in the butt post. Can you guys post up some preliminary plans/schedule?
  • I've spoken to Haley a bit. She's already begun her off-line bulletin board blog.
  • Chris, any ideas for a leave behind. I see by your post that you are looking into letterhead/identity systems.
  • Rand, not sure what you are up to right now.
POST STUFF!!

Carter POP UP books

You guys may be interested in these books. I can steal them out of my kids library so you guys can check them out. Really great paper engineering! They will be in my office if you want to check 'em out!
